For over ten years now members of Ruddington Community Choir have been entertaining audiences – and themselves – with weekly rehearsals leading to regular concerts both in our village and further afield.
Not only that, they’ve organised popular events in Ruddington such as ‘The Big Sing’ – which attracts choirs from around the country to attend specialist workshops and performances at venues around the village. Whilst choir membership is looking very healthy at the moment, they’re always looking to attract new singers who might like to give it a try – particularly a few more male recruits.
Following the usual summer break, founder and musical director Bernie Bracha says: “Ruddington Community Choir opens its doors to new and existing members on Tuesday 26th September. For the first session of the Autumn we’ll be learning new songs such as ‘Say a Little Prayer’ and ‘You’re the Voice’ as well as brushing up on some of our recent favourites: ‘Mad World’, ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘A Little Respect’.”
She adds: “The choir is open to everyone, regardless of experience, ability or confidence. There are no auditions and members don’t have to be able to read music. You’re very welcome to join us for a free taster session.”
Member Elaine Herring says: “It doesn’t matter what’s going off in my life, or how lousy I feel when I arrive at choir, I always feel uplifted by the end of rehearsal. Singing with like-minded choir buddies is therapy for body and soul and I can’t recommend our fabulous community choir highly enough!”
Terry Boniface agrees: “Any work stress accumulated by Tuesday is cleared away that evening, ready for a fresh new start to the rest of the week on Wednesday to get through to the weekend! Perfect.”
Starting this week, meetings/rehearsals are being held most Tuesdays during term time at Ruddington Methodist Church, from 8.00 to 9.30pm. If you decide to join, there’s a membership fee of £21 per month to cover venue and running costs, payable by direct debit over 12 months.
